Pamela Wannie, Minister of Music

Pam has been a member of South Congregational Churchc since 1998.  In her first years here she began a family choir and co-created and co-led a Sunday Morning Praise and Worship service for the Sunday School.  In 2004 she was appointed Director of Music, conducting the senior choir, family choir and providing music for worship services.  During that same year, Pam began the youth choir, introducing young people of all ages to traditional hymns as well as contemporary Christian music.  In 2005, Pam also began to conduct the Engish handbell choir of which she had been a member for five years.

Pam has also been commissioned as a Seminary Intern at South Church.  Pam is studying to become an ordained minister at Andover Newton Theological School.   In her added role Pam will engage with the congregation in various experiences to advance spiritual growth.   She will be preaching, giving pastoral care, teaching adult faith formation, and learning how to best respond to issues of stewardship and bricks and mortar.  This field education will also give Pam a chance to advance her own faith journey through intellectual, ministerial and personal growth.  South Congregational is blessed to have Pam appointed to this new role and we look forward to Pam sharing her gifts for ministry over the course of the next year and beyond.

“It is a great joy and great honor to work with people to provide musical offerings that bring praise and glory to God while deepening our relationships within our faith community.”

Pamela is an accomplished pianist, accompanist, vocalist and choral conductor.  With a rich background in directing church music, musical theater and chamber music, and her own love of folk and classical music; Pam uses her eclectic musical experiences to bring a great variety of music into the worship experience.  “It is important that South Church provide music that speaks in a language that is meaningful to all.”

Pamela holds a Bachelors of Music, duel major of Piano and Vocal performance, with a concentration in Music Education from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.  She has studied opera with Eunice Alberts and Estill Voice with Charlotte Russell.  She has studied piano with: Dragana Basholovic, Ingrid Lindbladt, Juanita Tsu, and Loretta Slovak.  She has studied choral conducting with Dr. Christopher McGahan and has studied Organ with Hope Mehaffey.  In addition, Pam plays guitar, ukulele, and hammered dulcimer (for fun)!

Later Pam did graduate course work in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College and Leslie University.  Pamela is currently enrolled at Andover Newton Theological Seminary in the Masters of Divinity Program.  In addition, she also serves on the Church Development Council at the Massachusetts Council of Churches, and is a Conflict Transformation Facilitator through Walking in the Way at the Brookfield Institute.

Pam is the proud parent of two amazing children, Zachary and Emma, who are members of this church and are active in the Christian Education and Music programs.  She is married to Adam, a life-long Cape Codder who grew up in South Congregational Church and works as a Therapist here in Centerville Village.
