Welcome to the Music Ministry of South Congregational Church! Our regular musical activities include an Adult Choir, Youth and Children’s Choir, and Bell Choir. These groups worship the Lord with a variety of compositions taken both from traditional church choral literature and from contemporary sources. Our newest initiative is a Jazz Sunday every couple of months. A drummer and guitarist/bassist join with Pam Wannie, Music Minister and pianist, to play jazz-themed preludes, interludes and postludes and to accompany the adult choir as they sing the day’s anthem. Occasionally a soloist will sing a jazz-themed selection. Recently, one of the members of the adult choir sang I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say, a modern jazz composition for voice and piano based on a poem of the same name written by the 19-Century Scottish poet Horatio Bonnar. Also, the adult choir recently performed A Little Jazz Mass by Bob Chilcott, a highly popular selection within the sacred choral jazz-style literature. You can listen to the choir sing A Little Jazz Mass by selecting “Adult Choir” in the drop down box under the heading “Music”. Thank you for your interest in our musical journey. We hope to see you at Sunday worship. And, if you think you may be interested in joining the adult choir, please swing by and join us for a rehearsal on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm-8:30pm.
